Archive projects and recover retained tasks

Remove archived work from active use, keep its history, and restore the retained workflow.

projectstasksapi

Archive a project from Project Settings, then find it in the Archived Projects view. Its tasks leave active work, while authorized links still open retained tasks, discussions, Activity and Context. The project shows an archive marker and accepts no ordinary edits or new automated work.

Restore the original work

Restore project keeps every task in its retained workflow column. Tasks that were individually archived remain archived. In an active project, open Archived Tasks and use Restore task to recover an individual task. Restoring a project checks current project and unfinished-task capacity before making any change.

Use the same lifecycle as an agent

Organization owners and admins can use the dedicated project archive endpoint, CLI project archive and restore commands, and typed project archive and restore tools in full and public MCP. Default lists and search exclude inherited archive. Explicit active, archived or all scopes preserve authorization and show each task’s archive reason separately from workflow status.

Project archive preserves independent task archive timestamps, dependencies and release points. Archived blockers satisfy release conditions; restoring the project can make a dependency wait again. Project transitions have their own Activity and events. Individual and bulk task archive use the same durable issue update delivery path.
